Why to check Your Credit Report frequently
Did you know that your credit report is a lot like your own shadow? Your report will follow you around for the rest of your life. This is precisely why it’s important that you read your credit report more than once per year.
Most people never bother to order a credit report until they need to make a large purchase. This seems logical, right? Well, when you take a look at the big picture, getting your report at the last minute doesn’t make a lot of sense.
Why? Let’s say (for example) that you want to buy a house. After finding the house that you want, you will have to visit with a mortgage lender in order to get a home loan. If you do not know about all the information contained within your credit report, you may be quite surprised when you are turned down for that loan.
Even if the information contained within your report is incorrect, this will take some time to fix. In short, you probably won’t be able to make any large purchases until your report has been cleaned up. On the other hand, if you make an effort to review your report each year…you’ll always know what that report contains.
As you can clearly see, reading your credit report more than once per year is crucial. Whether you want to make a large purchase now (or in the future), staying on top of your credit report is the best way to ensure good credit all the time.
Don’t be caught by surprise when you want to access your credit. You should know who’s accessing your credit report; why they’re accessing it; and whether the information contained within the report is correct at all times. Now, the only question is: have you read your credit report lately? If not – get a free copy of your credit report here.
